Our Story Begins in Skukuza
Greg, the founder of Tranquil Timber, grew up under the open skies of Skukuza — a place where the rhythm of the wilderness shapes your days and teaches you to slow down, listen, and pay attention.
As a boy, he spent countless hours surrounded by nature, learning to appreciate the textures, scents, and stories told by the trees. His earliest memories are of wooden verandas soaked in golden light, creaking walkways beneath barefoot footsteps, and the scent of woodsmoke in the early evening.
Over time, his fascination with wood — how it weathers, breathes, and transforms — became a passion. It wasn’t just about working with timber; it was about preserving the feeling of being surrounded by it.
From the Bush to the Bench
Greg studied carpentry and fine woodworking, but always brought the lessons of the bush with him: patience, respect, balance, and purpose. After years of honing his skills, he returned to what he loved most — working with wood in places that feel like home: lodges, nature retreats, and wilderness escapes.
Tranquil Timber & CO was founded to bring those two worlds together — traditional craftsmanship and the untouched beauty of wild spaces.
